Those alluring Clouds o’er Machu Picchu, Peru

(Pic Source: National Geographic – Photo of the day, describes as “Perched high in the Peruvian Andes, the royal retreat of Machu Picchu testifies to the Inca’s masterful building skills with its precision-cut stones and perfectly placed cascades of terraces.”)

Incredibly beautiful! (Have added this to my list already :) Yes, the list of those sought after destinations I shall travel hopefully; in this lifetime ;) )

Jaipur’s Heritage

I had a tough time selecting the photos for this post. There are actually too many, and each has its own significance.

Hawa Mahal (Palace of wind), Old Jaipur – During those times, royal women were allowed to view outside only though these tiny windows – everyday life, festivities etc. I was amazed to see the Palace built with great intricacy; that stood so tall amidst the busy Bazaar.

Having crossed the lanes, By lanes, Bazaars, I almost reach a narrow road that leads to Amber Fort / Amer Garh. At a distance, I was able to view the remnants.

While entering the Fort…

The artwork on the walls, doors, carvings at the fort. A beautiful amalgamation of Hindu-Mughal-Persian artistry.

A distant view of the Mughal Garden from a tiny window called “Jharokha” at the Fort. The Kings & Queens would spent their time relaxing in the Garden.

A sneak through one of the Jharokhas at Amber Fort

A creative flow that was incredibly beautiful.  If you closely look at it, in this carved piece you shall find an elephant’s tail, bee, floret & a butterfly perhaps!!

An extract of the famous “Sheesh Mahal” (The Glass Palace)

A courtyard Diwan-I-Khas inside the fort

Another masterpiece – The Observatory, Jantar Mantar – an astronomical delight! This instrument was primarily used to sight the positioning of Sun and other planets.

One of the 12 Raashis(Sunsigns) …I clicked mine

The Great Sun Dial. I believe, it can give the time to an accuracy of 2 seconds, Placed in the North-South direction. For an instance, I was completely besotted looking at these instruments thinking how it worked during those times.

Gateway to the City Palace, located very close to The Observatory, Jantar Mantar.

The restricted Palace area, where the current Royal Heir lives.

Old Carriages at display in the City Palace

Shoppers paradise – The Jauhari Bazaar & Bapu Bazaar

Colorful souvenirs to gift, all handmade and beautifully crafted.

Bright and vibrant bangles for all times…

Desert land’s pride…

An evening spent in Albert Hall – Museum, that exhibits all the legacies of rulers in ancient times.

I hope you enjoyed the visual treat. These are nothing but a glance through the past…a journey that shall hover around my mind perhaps for a lifetime.

Series of events…

that has kept me occupied since last week! Plays, get-togethers, Children’s day competition at our NGO, Cooking…etc!

Alyque Padamsee & Sabira Merchant after their brilliant performance in “The Game“. The act was absolutely flawless.

Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak, Benjamin Gilani, Akash Khurana & others in “Antigone” – A Greek tragic play. It was my life’s best experience to watch such legendary actors perform live on stage. Naseer was marvellous, so natural.

Children’s Day at Safa(www.safaindia.org). All hidden talents were discovered during this drawing competetion. (Look at their winning smile :) …They all were fabulous and so creative!

Made some kachoris stuffed with green peas, Alu dum, Daal fry and kheer with nuts and jaggery for dinner.

And, further…am off to Jaipur for a Dance & Music festival o’er this weekend!! :)

A day in a small town.

Bardhaman, a small town situated in West Bengal some less than 100 km North west from Kolkata.

A nice weather, sky all covered with grey clouds promising heavy downpour….

The historical Curzon Gate built in honor of Lord Curzon

A clearer view of The Curzon Gate

Sandesh…bengali sweets are incomplete without it’s mention. They are mouth watering, melts right into your mouth :)

Roshogulla with raw mango essence (Flavor of the season)

Ahhh hot fritters(Beguni and Alu Chops made of brinjals and mashed potato) with tea at a claystove stall. Nothing to beat a lovely rainy evening.

This man thinking I am a journalist while clicking pictures requested to click one of his pics :)

Silver lines..lightening up the night in the sky….

And…I leave the town next day early morning while the sun manages to smile bright after the night’s heavy downpour! While driving back; I envied the simple life that people led there, untouched by most of the modern transitions that has taken place in the cities. They live in their present, happy with the meagre they earn and live contented. They have not advanced, may be which is why they have not lost their simplicity.

Full Moon

(Taken the pic from my newly purchased Nikon Coolpix cammy :) . Actually have taken quite a few pics, but this one was the best so far.)

Full and round like a silver ball,
It rises gradually as dusk falls,
Draping the earth in it’s light,
Mighty moon shines there bright.

Up above, it plays hide & seek,
with clouds perched in the sky,
& leaves fluttering gently,
…in a breezy air.
Silently, the Moon glistens all night.

(…well I had to think of a few lines that would go with the pic. Hope you like it :) )

A collage

Shots taken from my terrace..these are my most prized possessions :) ! Bougainviliea, roses, money plant, herbs, a bonsai, marigold, Tuberose (yet to flower) and other flowering plants!! A pigeon was caught quenching it’s thirst near one of the pots :)

A treat for your eyes!

I find it extremely curative to gaze through these lovely looking plants. It was incredible when I visited the nursery this morning. A riot of colors, all across wherever my eyes could rest upon; serving as a potion refreshing my tired mind completely. I bought quite a few to nurture them adding to my existing collections.

Now, this is photography!

Though it’s  linked to my blog..I fail to visit everyday and thus missed this terrific shot @ National Geographic Photo Of The Day dated 15th Nov 09. The pic, I believe is taken on Spitfire Lake(Northern New York State) in the Adirondack Park at 7.00 AM.

Statue of high stature

After a long time, had a nice memorable weekend :) ! The weather was perfect and decided to take mom out…We cruised all the way to the beautiful statue amidst the Hussain Sagar Lake. It stood beautiful. Though, I was quite pained to see the edges of a beautiful water body/lake polluted :(

Blossom

How exotic it looks, how divine it smells,
the beautiful rose & its intoxicating spells!
When coated with dew, it’s fresh & pearly;
as it blossoms its fragrance spreads!!

 Charminar – The four minarets!

I adore monuments, mosques, ancient primitive temples, forts etc …Somehow I find them immensely soothing & soul-stirring!!! I would surely not mind spending endless time there simply gazing at the intricate structured piece of art. Truly they are priceless!!

And it bloomed!

The beams in a very subtle way touched the edges, leaves and petals in the crisp morning. It was pleasantly soothing to see it bloom & sway as the stream of air tickled throughout!!!

This week quite an affair…

26072009093 Saw the glitz and glamor of Hyderabadi Walima (Reception).

28072009129 Bunked ;) and took my family to a park which had so many peacocks …they looked amazing swirling and hopping around. The minute I went close-by to capture a pic in my cam, it ran away swiftly :( leaving me disappointed. But lemme admit, the place is awesome, and the slight drizzle in the evening made the trip even more pleasant. Later we had our share of yummy customized icecreams at one of the coziest parlors.

01082009143 haha!! Not to forget how much I played with my adorable niece. made her 9Xm’s “Bheegi billi’ (her fave channel)…and she was so delighted that she kept looking at the mirror.
