It’s really heartrending when your vehicle stops by at the traffic signals and you see small kids in tattered clothes, old disabled men, women sometimes with new born infants or sometimes with bulging stomachs…, extending their hands out for a meager amount everyday. At that point I just give a sympathetic stare at them…and may be if I have a few coins I dig them and give it out…But most of the times, I wonder if they are genuine enough…and think why don’t they earn their living…? Why do they have to choose begging of all?? Would giving them a few coins make a difference in their lives…or is this a business for them..??
These days looks like it’s become a huge racket, heard of stories that some influential people literally abduct kids, catastrophe their limbs and put them on streets for begging and by the end of the day they collect whatever is “earned” for the day.. . Don’t know how relevant it is…& not just that… in Hyderabad recently lots of eunuchs have occupied some signal points and have been harassing commuters with a compulsion to pay…!! I know it doesn’t make a huge difference to pay a small amount to them…but everyday….??? Are we encouraging them to take up begging as a profession by helping them…??
Often…I get coiled with these thoughts… everytime I encounter them and wish if this activity is completely eliminated and also hope if our government can take a few steps for their development…and rehabilitation..!
